Dermot O’Leary
Dermot spends his Saturday afternoon’s presenting The Dermot O’Leary Show on BBC Radio 2 (3pm-6pm) having cut his teeth on XFM several years ago. He was delighted to collect the prestigious Sony Radio Award for The Best Music Programme in both 2010 and 2008.
Dermot kicked off 2011 by hosting The National Television Awards for the second time at the O2 arena for ITV1, one of the most prominent awards ceremonies for which the results are voted on by the general public.
2010 saw Dermot showing audiences his passion for politics by chairing a debate in First Time Voters Question Time and hosting the Dermot Meets series where he interviewed David Cameron, Gordon Brown and Nick Clegg, both for BBC Three.
Dermot successfully landed the coveted role of presenting ITV1’s The X Factor in 2007 and he has been on hand ever since to offer contestants support, encouragement and a shoulder to cry on as they endure the nerve wracking experience that is the judging room, as well as presiding over Simon, Louis, Cheryl and Dannii once the show reaches the live studio every Saturday evening.
In 2001, Dermot became the host of Big Brother’s Little Brother on E4, the companion show to Channel 4’s Big Brother. He continued this for 7 series taking him right through to 2007. He gained consistently high ratings and a dedicated audience that tuned in throughout the years.
He has always been a music fan and fronted both Re-Covered for BBC3, won an RTS award, nominated for a Montreaux Rose for Channel 4’s music extravaganza UK Music Hall Of Fame which featured live performances from legends such as James Brown, Brian Wilson and Bon Jovi.
Diversity is Dermot’s strength, spending the early part of his career as a researcher; he went on to establish the hugely successful T4 for Channel 4. Some of his credits include reporting from Costa Rica on the plight of the Leatherback Turtle for Extinct on ITV1, hosting prime time BBC1 quiz show 1 v 100, fronting three series of SAS Are You Tough Enough? for BBC2, Born To Win for BBC1, Some Of My Best Friends Are… Catholic and Shattered for Channel 4. He also presented Dermot’s Sporting Buddies for BBC3 which was made by Murfia, his own production company.
When Dermot has some spare time, he loves anything marine-based like sea fishing and surfing or you may see him out on his newly acquired Royal Enfield motorbike or supporting his beloved Arsenal FC.
