Anita Rani
Anita is currently filming the second series of Channel 4’s antiques show with a twist, ‘Four Rooms’, as well as being a key member of BBC1’s ‘ The One Show’ presenting team. Last summer saw her drive 2000 miles around India for BBC2 documentary ‘India on Four Wheels’, exploring if and how the country is lined up to be the next financial super power and discovering the insanity of India’s roads. Her ability to speak Hindi and Punjabi fluently came in very handy.
2011 also saw Anita land the sought after role of presenting the Royal Wedding coverage for BBC1. She was given a prime spot outside the Goring Hotel where Kate along with the Middleton clan were staying and from where she left to go to Westminster Abbey. Anita got first glimpse of that dress!
Also for BBC1 Anita has presented the consumer heavy weight Watchdog, Rogue Restaurants, unearthing filthy goings on in our local eateries and Make Me White, a fascinating documentary which saw her investigating skin lightening within the Asian community. In 2006 Anita became part of the Sky Sports family and co-presented Cricket AM on Sky Sports every Saturday morning with Simon Thomas.
Anita grew up in Bradford, and came to broadcasting early, with her own show on Sunrise Radio at the age of 14. She studied Broadcasting at Leeds University, and went on to work as a TV researcher for the BBC and various independent companies.
With her passion for music and argument, Anita was a natural on-screen talent, and was made the face of Street Beat for UK Play. In 2002, Anita presented a groundbreaking live programme for Five, The Edit, combining news and entertainment for young people. She went on to become the new face of Network East, the BBC2 flagship Asian magazine show, and in 2003 she fronted BBC3’s satirical current affairs programme The State We’re In.
In 2005, Anita joined BBC’s Asian Network as presenter of the weekend breakfast shows Hot Breakfast as well as presenting the first three series of the BBC2 award-winning Asian cultural magazine show Desi DNA. Anita has also been a regular face of major pop extravaganzas for Five, including Spring Break Live, Party in the Park and Pop City Live as well as presented BBC3’s first Poetry Slam.
Anita was nominated as Best on Screen Personality at the RTS Midlands awards in 2005. In 2006 she was a regular reporter on The Cricket Show for Channel 4 as well as presenting My Generation Next, shown on BBC News 24. She appeared on BBC Radio Five Live in 2007 and presented World Have Your Say on the BBC World Service and Weekend Breakfast on Radio Five Live. In August 2007 she presented Calcutta Uncovered as part of the BBC India and Pakistan ’07 season and she is frequently asked to cover various shows on BBC Radio 6 Music.
